For week of 4/14 - 4/20 (published the 21st though)

This week I worked in a group to come up with questions regarding how we should critically analyze material online.

In my group I went through a list of media sources provided by our professor and analyzed 3 of them. The questions I answered for each source included the following.

  1. What is the name of the media source?

  2. What medium is it (newspaper, movie, TV show, podcast, etc.)?

  3. What country(ies) or region(s) does this source cover?

  4. In what language(s) does the media deliver its content?

  5. Who owns the media?

  6. Who controls it?

  7. What is the mission of the media outlet?

  8. What information/programming does it provide?

  9. Who is the audience?

I really found this assignment more informative than difficult. It was tedious; however, I learned a lot about different media sources than the typical American ones I'm used to. In my previous history classes where we'd have to find stories to write about from NBC, CBS, New York Times, things on Jstor, etc.

The media sources I analyzed included the following...

  • National Public Radio (NPR) Africa

    • this is a site for news which consists of podcasts, television, and radio.

  • Reuters Africa

    • Reuters is a world leading multimedia news agency.

  • Prensa Latina

    • Prensa Latina is a Latin American news agency proving radio, publications, and videos.

Hi Mya!

I was awesome working with you on this assignment in our group. Thanks for taking the time to ready, provide input and help package the assignment. Teamwork is so important, and you will find in the workplace there will be plenty of opportunities to work as a team. I find myself day to day forming and working with teams to successfully complete assignments. Sometimes you will need a team especially on big projects. I manager projects and programs daily and having the right people on your team can make a huge difference. Everyone has skills and talent; it is great to learn your team and strategically work together with a common goal in mind!

Take care...

I agree that this assignment was very tedious but I did learn about different media sources and what questions to ask to be able to tell the truth from fiction when reading something in the media.
